With the authentication details in place, you re now ready to run each of the replication wizards. Again, to spare you dozens of pages of screenshots, I ll highlight the tips, tricks, and pitfalls to be aware of when running each of the six wizards.

This wizard creates the control tables that keep track of your replication tasks. The wizard is very easy to step through; it asks English language style questions about the expected workload and the timeliness of updates to be reflected in your replica.

As you can see, there are different sections with starts, pages, and decisions. Each of these has various options and outcomes. We will be using this as a basis to discuss what components are available and what these components provide us. Figure 7-7 shows a graphical representation of the preceding listing.

You re about to see many tablespace names, table names, information screens, and error messages with the term ASN embedded in them. This is an historic throwback to IBM s early replication technology and the terminology that went with it. The term ASN is so old that I have never found out what it means, even after all these years. So now you know its provenance and have a challenge if you want to beat me at DB2 trivia.

As I did earlier with the process definition components, here I will define the components that can be used to make a process flow.

I found only one problem with this wizard. The script it prepares creates two tablespaces and numerous tables and indexes to control your replication. One of the tablespaces, TSASNUOW, is used to track units of work in replication. In the first general release of DB2 9.5, the file container for the tablespace defaults to a size too low to allow the subsequent scripts to run successfully. You ll see this SQL as part of the set of commands it proposes to run: ... CREATE TABLESPACE TSASNUOW IN NODEGROUP IBMCATGROUP MANAGED BY DATABASE USING ( FILE 'TSASNUOW' 1M ); ... To successfully run the commands through the Replication Center, you need to change the size of the file container for the TSASNUOW tablespace by using the UI to increase the container size or editing the script onscreen to increase the file container s size. Entering a value of 10M works well: ... CREATE TABLESPACE TSASNUOW IN NODEGROUP IBMCATGROUP MANAGED BY DATABASE USING ( FILE 'TSASNUOW' 10M ); ... With that change in place, you can run the wizard to completion. Note you can also copy and paste the entire script into the Command Editor, DB2 CLP and so on. Make the same , change and manually take control of the Capture control table-creation process. Another useful change to consider is switching this tablespace to automatic storage as you now know that

The start state is like the start state in the process definition. It starts the process and transitions to what is defined in the transition definition. In actuality, for page flows we can define start states with multiple transitions. In that case, an action listener would forward to the string of the name passed back. Look at the example in Listing 7-20.

feature saves you most of the worries associated with low-level tablespace management. The tables created are used by the Capture program, which is one-half of the application pair that does the hard work of managing your DB2 replication.

This wizard allows you to find the tables you want to provide the data that will be replicated. The table registration wizard provides a great graphical way to find the tables (and even columns) you want to replicate. The only gotcha is the search logic it uses. Figure 23-6 shows the Add Registerable Tables dialog box. The key to finding what you want, without having to scroll through every object in the database, is to realize that the Values fields accept SQL-style values.
